In the research department the new designs and materials are developed and tested, in many cases along with the associated production processes as well. Special customer-specific developments, based on the customer specifications, are also developed.
Over the course of the company’s history a whole host of new innovations have been developed, including the substitution of soldered sealing cones with single-piece swaged sealing cones in the 1950s, the use of autofrettaging for achieving higher pressure levels in fuel injection lines in the 1980s, or more recently the surpassing of the magical threshold of 3,000 bar for the first time with the new material ST90.
The company is also one of the few firms in its sector to carry out basic development work on grades of steel. Newly developed compositions are subjected to material tests and put through rigorous testing on every aspect and optimised on our own component test rigs until they are suitable for serial production. The continuous improvement and further development of production processes or their adaptation to customer requirements are also important aspects of the R&D processes at the company.
Innovation is an important driving force in the field of automotive engine development and the company therefore also undertakes research and development work on completely new types of materials which could have a potentially important role to play in the future.
This is where the work is done today on the customer requirements of tomorrow.
